There is now a window and menus to execute the command you want over a sound. You are strongly advised to look at the "About..." menu item in the Apple menu; it has important information about what you can do with the application.
The menu item "Export" lets you copy a 'snd ' sound from one file to another.
There is a new feature which plays sound from an AIFF/AIFF-C file.
Some questions you might want to ask:
･ What do I do for a start?
You should open a file using the "Open..." menu item in the "File" menu; all the "snd " resources, which hold "snd " sounds will be listed in the window and you can move around and see the id's and names of the sounds in that file.
･ How do I play a sound from the list without using the popupmenu beside it?
Just select the file on the list and press the "Play" button.
･ What if a sound is too loud and I want to stop it immediately, or if my boss shows up?
Simply press the Stop button which will always clear any sound that is playing.
･ Can I pause a sound that is playing?
No, not in this version.
･ How do I set the rate of a sound (11kHz...)?
Choose the "Set rate" menu item from the "Special" menu and choose the desired rate. If you want to set the new rate JUST for the next sound press the first button. If you wish to set it for all sounds that you will play from now on, press the second button. Otherwise you can cancel any rate modifications by pressing the third button.
･ Do I have some information on sounds?
Yes: the sound's rate appears at the bottom of the main window and if you are too quick on selecting sounds, MiniSoundReader will wait for a while, until the playing sound channel is free. In versions >= 2.0b3 the sound's time is also displayed.
･ How do I play AIFF sounds?
Don't open the AIFF file using "Open" since no sound will be listed. Use instead, the popupmenu item "Play AIFF..." and you will be prompted with an open dialog. Select the file, and the sound will immediately start playing.
Final remark:
All that existed in version 1.4 exists here too, but in different places. I don't know about you, but in version 1.4 everything seemed to be packed up in one dialog and now it even seems that the window is too big!
